Research Areas

  • Regulation of higher plant photosynthesis and respiration under environmental stresses. Particularly, we are trying to understand the mechanisms that allow C4 plants to tolerate high light. The specific topic focuses on mechanism of heavy metals on structure and function of photosynthetic membrane complexes in granal and agranal chloroplasts. The changes in gene expression, protein and metabolite levels under abiotic stresses are also examined.
  • Developing a system of transient and stable transformation of unicellular, extremophilic red microalga Cyanidioschyzon merolae 10D.
  • We use a range of techniques, including physiological, biochemical and molecular approaches. Our department is well equipped with laboratory core facilities.
